I suppose a quick report would go something like

“What a pleasure to fish Grafham with a sporadic rise that lasted most of the day, fish were hump or porpoise rising almost all day in the west end of the reservoir. Fish could be targeted as they travelled close to the surface taking trapped emerging insects. Sounds easy but the fish were easily spooked and many false rises were experienced. This type of fishing takes patience and an ability to change your tactics and flies quickly and in a structured way, mixing washing line with single or double dries presented accurately and with minimum disturbance.

Iain Fraser from Essex B, (12lb-5oz) has fished floating lines for most of his fishing career and tempted fish to dry flies and emergers, showing the way to those who are tempted to get into hypnotic pulling styles of fishing. Andy Crothers from Norfolk A (11lbs-3oz) was pulling a team of Montana variants and orange blobs and found success in the same area. Spooning fish revealed black flies were on the menu. Suffolk Constabulary A team had been winning most of the regional matches but their anglers struggled to find fish and were pushed into third place by Essex B with Norfolk A taking Eastern Region honours. Of note was recently retired Norfolk Police Sergeant Guy Thompson, who with the retirement collection bought fly-fishing equipment and casting a single large dry fly came third overall with a bag of 8-14”
