2009 Report
REGION 2 (Sec. Malcolm Naylor)
Eyebrook Reservoir
This Annual Event was again organised and arranged on behalf of the Region by Malcolm Naylor, the treasurer for the Northumbria Section.
The event was held at Eyebrook Reservoir on Thursday 11th June 2009, a bright, blustery day that made conditions quite difficult for most anglers.
All forces within the region were invited to partake in the event and all, with the exception of Durham & Humberside submitted a total of 10 teams (4 per team) and 4 individuals.

Once again this event proved very successful and although only one limit bag was caught, only 11 failed to weigh -in, which given the conditions of bright sun shine and high winds was a credit to those participating and the fishery who's stocking policy cannot be ignored.
On the practice day we saw fish up to 15lb being stocked but unfortunately these bigger fish didn't come to the scales.
Most fish were caught in the main basin, near the dam but others did find fish in other areas around of the reservoir. They were all good quality fish and gave a good account of themselves when hooked.
( NB the fishery did receive one complaint on the day from an angler - identity unknown - suggesting that there was too much natural feed in the reservoir!!!)
Following the presentation we enjoyed a small buffet and discussed those elusive trout that managed to snap lines, escaped at the net or simply threw the hook - like the one that threw my damsel nymph after a 10 minute struggle - it must have been at least 10lbs and would have gone a long way to restoring some pride that was clearly lost by the Northumbria teams.
Congratulations obviously go to North Yorks 'A' who qualify for the 2010 National Championships, they clearly deserved the victory having nearly double the nearest total weight but North Yorks please be warned - the other teams will be out to conquer you next year.
The 4 Northumbria teams once again failed to produce the goods but it wasn't through a lack of trying or effort.
The 'B' Team consisting of Tony Barclay, Malcolm Naylor Colin King and Eric Brunton (all retired members) were the best placed Northumbria team - finishing in 6th place with 8 fish for a total weight 16lb 5oz - a long way behind the winners but still a good effort considering our lack of experience fishing at, and knowledge of the reservoir.
The 2010 NE Regional competition will be held on the Thursday 10th June 2010 - location to be confirmed but at this time I anticipate that it will once again be held at Eyebrook.
I will be contacting Force Secretaries in the near future to seek their views on the location for the 2010 event and the format that it takes.
