SCOTTISH POLICE ANGLING ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP 13^TH MAY 2010

LAKE OF MENTEITH

The 44^th Annual Championship of the Scottish Police Angling Association (SPAA) took place on Thursday 13^th May 2010 at the Lake of Menteith, Stirlingshire. Due to some late withdrawals only 66 competitors took part in the event which, besides being a Championship in it’s own right, also serves as the Regional qualifiers for the PSUK representative events that will take place in 2011.

The event was fished to a 3 fish bag limit with competitors thereafter adopting catch and release tactics with 2lb in weight being credited for each released fish. A total of 214 Fish (including 72 released fish) weighing 371lb 1oz were caught.

The 4 man team event was won by Lothian and Borders Police team B, comprising of Graham Harvey, Graham Niven, Roddy McIntyre and Brian Clifton with a total team catch of 24 fish for 42lb 7oz, and this Team will represent Scotland at the PSUK National Final at Bewl in 2011. In a close run contest Strathclyde Police team B were the runners up with 22 fish for 41lb 14oz.

The individual Scottish Champion for 2010 was Alan Hill from Strathclyde Police with an outstanding catch of 18 fish for 34lb 6oz and Alan will also represent Scotland as an individual at the 2011 PSUK National Final. The runner up to the individual Champion was Graham Harvey of Lothian and Borders Police with 11 fish for 20lb 8oz.

Stuart Marshall of Central Scotland Police caught the heaviest fish, weighing 2lb 13oz.

Following the event the presentation dinner was held within the Winnock Hotel, Drymen, and Chief Constable Martin Baker of Dorset Police, Chair of PSUK Fly Fishing, presented the prizes to the winners.
