2010 report

The 2010 East Midlands Region Fly Fishing eliminator match was held on Tuesday 11th May at Pitsford Reservoir in Northamptonshire.  The event was organised by Northants Police by Dave Adams.  The event was fished by 4 teams, from Northants, Leciestershire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire.  Unfortunately the stalwarts from Nottinghamshire were unable to raise a team for this event and were sadly missed, they are always there and are a good bunch of guys to fish with.  We are hoping that they will bounce back next year.  

The practice day on the 10th May saw most anglers out but the weather played a big part in the fishing. It was bitterly cold and people struggled to catch fish.  On the match day the weather had improved and there was a bit more sun but it was still quite cold with a steady breeze ideal for Loch Style fishing.  In the afternoon the wind dropped the sun came out and a fantastic hatch of olives came off the water but the fish were not showing, however there were 4 anglers who managed to get the fish to take there flies and bag up with 8 fish.  Out of 29 anglers there were only 2 anglers that failed to catch everyone else managed to get something out.  The method on the day was buzzers.  Most people thought that the fish were deep down as they were not showing very much on the surface even though there was a fantastic hatch going on throughout the day.  One angler seemed to be pulling fish out like they were going out of fashion and got his limit in quick time, it turned out he was fishing a muddler on the point with two diawl bachs on droppoers and fishing just below the surface.   

At the end of the day it was looking like it was going to be an interesting weigh-in.  In the end Dave Summers boys from Leicestershire won the day in the team event.  Their top 4 anglers weighed in 24 fish for 55lb 10oz.  The team winners were Dave Summers, Lee Tones, Mick Harby & D. Richardson.  The top two individuals were Dave Summers in first place with 8 fsh for 17lb 4 oz with 3lb 8oz time bonus and second place was Lee Tones with 8 fish for 15lb 8oz and 3lb 8 oz time bonus.  The heaviest fish was a Rainbow of 3lb 9oz cuaght by Kev Jones also from Leicestershire.  So in the end it was an absolute clean sweep by Leicestershire, the top team and top two individuals and heaviest fish.
