2010 Report
North West Region
This year the Regional Competition took place with Cheshire competing against Greater Manchester Police. We fished at Brenig in a hard fought competition. The previous days event did little to help most of the anglers competing. At the start of the day it was calm conditions and overcast, moving to bright sunshine with a strong breeze in the afternoon. The wind direction had changed and instead of blowing along Hafon Woods creating the perfect drift, the wind was blowing almost directly onto the woods limiting the time spent covering fish. Again the best tactic for the day was a slime line, or slow intermediate with Orange patterns. The hot spot for the day was at Hafon Woods with the majority of the fish being caught there. It appears that it was a case of first come first served, at the start of the event almost all the boats went to Hafon Woods with Anton Duerden and Mike Wellman getting there first. Mike having three fish on at a time, not once but twice, fortunately (not for Mike) but for the competition Mike could not land all three of his second triple only two of them, meaning that instead of bagging up at 10.30am, it took him an extra hour. Anton fishing like Mike also caught quick fish at the start. It then appeared that boat activity slowed the fishing down and it became hard work with everyone having to work for the fish. Mike Wellman reported that he caught his fish on Orange patterns.
