End of Year report 2009

English Police Fly Fishing Association

In April the Association had its inaugural committee meeting and hosted a fishing match the following day at Eyebrook Reservoir, Leicestershire.  Anglers from all over England gathered to fish the 2nd English Police Boat Event. Twenty-one (21) forces had representatives at this match, an increase of six from the previous year. The fishing was excellent I had a cracking Rainbow of 7lb 11oz on a Harry Potter, which I would describe as a traditional fly; an "Alder" with a piece of sparkling material tied into the heavy brown hackle. Anyway as Mick Cartlidge (Sec. Region 4) said when he gave me the fly "It's Magic" and I wouldn't disagree.

A full match report on Eyebrook is available on the Web Site, but without dwelling on wind direction, water temperature, John Goodwin & Mick Cartlidge both from Staffordshire were the outings top rods. I might add no catch & release or time bonus was awarded on the day, if it had been implemented, they might well have been pipped by a lad from Nottinghamshire who caught twenty odd fish, just drifting right down the middle of the lake.  It was a glorious day, with a number of super bags weighed in...the BIG surprise was Gary Haskins had a clean sheet, sorry Gary.... you obviously were saving your best results for later in the season.

The High tea was arranged at the Falcon Hotel, in Uppingham and small raffle afterwards helped filter the first coins into the accounts of the newly formed association, well done Malcolm. (Organiser Malcolm Naylor Region 2 Sec.)
