· Insurance for trophies:
C.Fraser stated that no Insurance had been obtained in respect of the trophies held by the Section. He explained that once the actual details of what cover would be provided and the cost implications established, the section should accept the risk involved rather than spend £200.00 per annum. Reasons for this decision: the high excess placed on the loss or damage to any trophy, which was as much as the actual cost to replace some trophies and the decision by the committee that the two most expensive trophies the Gwilym Hughes & Derrick Scougal to be held / displayed at the Police Headquarters of the winning angler. C.Fraser further stated that he had fully discussed the matter with the Vice Chair, Mr Brian Williams before this decision was reached.
· New Computer/Result Sheet
C.Fraser stated he has program on the new laptop, there are still a couple of teething problems i.e. font size and final presentation. However he stated the main one was confidence in running and recording a championship with the new system, but he’d eventually get there.
· Recognition of Achievement within Sport
C.Fraser stated that he had introduced this item to the agenda last year in an attempt to encourage Regional Secretaries to look at individuals within their region who they felt merited recognition for their participation in sport. C.Fraser stated that I.Wood had drafted an email highlighting Dave Allen’s achievements in Fly Fishing and asked all secretaries to look at their respective regions and see if there were any other individuals or team that merited recognition for his/her involvement in sport or a team who have been consistently at the top of the game over a number of years. Committee members to nominate individuals/team
6. Update re. 2009 National Championships
S.Evans advised the committee that arrangements were in hand. The date of the competition is 4th June 2009 at Chew Valley and that 34 boats had been booked. He stated that he intended to use the Holiday Inn again, but if it was not available then it would be the Webbington.
7. Update re. 2008 International Championships
I.Wood advised the committee plans were at an advanced stage and as previously intimated the International Championships would be held on the 4th September 2008 at Brenig Water, North Wales . Accommodation would be provided at the Beaufort Park , in Mold. He thereafter distributed a prepared package to committee members with the entry form including costing for the event and other relevant information
8. Briefing for 2008 National Championships
C.Reeves provided details of the forthcoming competition and advised the committee that the event would have an eight fish bag limit and a time bonus of 2lb an hour, (8oz for every full 15 mins). He stated that that packed lunches would be provided at the venue in the morning, he went on to explain that as a risk assessment had to be carried out on any food that would be provided to competitor’s cheese was apparently the only safe option for being in a boat during the day. He stated that he would explain the reasoning to anglers at the briefing in the morning. Fishing times would be from 9.30am to 5.30 pm. Programmes had been made up and would be distributed, these did not contain boat partners for the event, but a list would be circulated. He stated that the Presentation Dinner was set for 8.00pm and that Mr Adrian Leppard, Deputy Chief Constable of Kent Police would be attending to give the welcome and present the prizes. C.Reeves stated that he would carry out a briefing at 9.15am at the venue, which would cover the Health and Safety aspect of the event; a copy of the Risk Assessment was included within the programme that would be provided to anglers. He concluded by asking the committee if there were any questions, none noted.
Mr M.Baker thanked Chris for all his efforts in respect of the arrangements for the competition.
9. Corresspondence Letter(s)
C.Fraser stated, given this being the 25th Anniversary of the National Championships and the number of letters he had written to a variety of different people inviting them to attend the event he had a folder full of letters of thanks well wishing. In particular from Her Majesty the Queen, P.M. Mr Brown, Jackie Stewart and others, including a nice letter from Quint (Lake of Menteith , Fishery Manager) where the trout caught at last years International, were sold and the money raised a total of £175.00 was then donated to the Port of Menteith Primary School.
