2nd Cleveland 'A' with 11 fish totalling 26lb 11oz
3rd South Yorks with 11 fish totalling 25lb 10oz
The individual Winner was Dave Farrer, North Yorks 'A' who caught 8 fish totalling 18lb 15oz and a bonus weight of 7lb 4oz.
The individual runner up was Jed Stephenson, West Yorks who caught 6 fish totalling 15lb 1oz.
Third place went to Bob Seeber, North Yorks 'A' (last years ind. Winner) 7 fish for 14lb 15oz
Fourth place went to Stan Drummond, Cleveland 'A' 5 fish for 13lb 13oz
The heaviest fish was taken by Gordon Elphee, West Yorks, a Rainbow Trout weighing 4lb 4oz.
In total, 44 anglers caught 92 fish for a total weight of 209lb.
Once again this event proved very successful and although only one limit bag was caught, only 11 failed to weigh -in, which given the conditions of bright sun shine and high winds was a credit to those participating and the fishery who's stocking policy cannot be ignored.
On the practice day we saw fish up to 15lb being stocked but unfortunately these bigger fish didn't come to the scales.
Most fish were caught in the main basin, near the dam but others did find fish in other areas around of the reservoir. They were all good quality fish and gave a good account of themselves when hooked.
( NB the fishery did receive one complaint on the day from an angler - identity unknown - suggesting that there was too much natural feed in the reservoir!!!)
The winning team and individuals were all presented with their prizes by Peter Darling the PSUK Regional Secretary who travelled down from Sheffield for the presentation.
Thanks Peter for your support in this event..
Following the presentation we enjoyed a small buffet and discussed those elusive trout that managed to snap lines, escaped at the net or simply threw the hook - like the one that threw my damsel nymph after a 10 minute struggle - it must have been at least 10lbs and would have gone a long way to restoring some pride that was clearly lost by the Northumbria teams.
Congratulations obviously go to North Yorks 'A' who qualify for the 2010 Regionals in Northern Ireland, they clearly deserved the victory having nearly double the nearest total weight but North Yorks please be warned - the other teams will be out to conquer you next year.
The 2010 NE Regional competition will be held on the Thursday 10th June - location to be confirmed but at this time I anticipate that it will once again be held at Eyebrook.
I will be contacting Force Secretaries in the near future to seek their views on the location for the 2010 event and the format that it takes.
