Scotland Rivers 2011
Scotland : River Championships
Eleven anglers fished this competition on Thursday 21st April 2011 on the River Clyde.
An extremely bright and sunny morning greeted the anglers as they gathered at the carpark in the village of Abington. Anglers were briefed by SPAA River Secretary Alan Hill and divided into pairs to fish the United Clyde Association water around Crawford/Abington some 5/6 miles in length. The pairs then elected who would fish first and thereafter fished an hour about, acting as the official to measure and count the fish when not fishing.
Alas it was a glorious day for officials, just to sit on the banks of the clyde and watch the world go by, with the exception of an hour between 11.30am - 12.30pm. As if by magic circles of moving fish broke the flow of running water, a terrific show of olives brought the trout up to feed, but it wasn't to last.
A total of 4 trout and 2 grayling came to the net, the majority during that mad lunch hour.
Results:
1st Alan Hill 2 Grayling Total Length 692mm
2nd George Kirk 1 Trout " 340mm
3rd Jim McBride 1 Trout " 332mm
4th John Greep 1 Trout " 321mm
5th Bob Robertson 1 Trout " 320mm
The above top four anglers, with a reserve have qualified to represent Scotland at The River Championship on the River Dee (Wales) in 2012.
